"Unbelievable," Clara spat, the word laced with venom. She threw the magazine across the room, it hitting the wall and landing with a dull thud. The glossy pages, once holding the promise of escape, now represented a personal violation. The article, detailing the plagiarism of her favourite author, felt like a punch to the gut.

She picked up her phone, scrolling through social media, seeing the outraged reactions of other fans. The solidarity offered little solace. She deleted all the author's books from her e-reader, the digital act of rebellion feeling insignificant against the scale of her disappointment.

She considered writing a scathing review, but the words wouldn't come. She was too numb.
