He ripped the flyer advertising the local concert series into tiny, jagged pieces. The paper, usually so easily folded and manipulated, resisted him, tearing unevenly, stubbornly. The music, a soft piano melody drifting from the neighbor's open window, grated on his nerves. David felt a tremor run through his hands, a physical manifestation of the storm brewing inside. He pictured Mark, his best friend, laughing, telling him about this move. He imagined their life together now, suddenly fragmented. He threw the shredded paper into the trash, the small act a meager release.
