The discovery was a physical blow. When she'd found the book, she'd physically crumpled. It was as if someone had just punched her. His version of events… the way he’d warped her words, her actions… It made her feel physically sick.

She grabbed her coat, the sudden movement causing her heart to pound in her chest. She had to get out. The air in the house was thick, suffocating. She walked to the front door, unlocked it and slammed it closed. He was still in the kitchen, washing dishes, oblivious. She decided not to go back.

She walked in circles around the block, biting her lip, the words echoing in her head. A cold wind whipped through the streets, mirroring the chill that had settled deep within her. The world felt wrong.
