Gemotions

The sun was relentless today. The heat felt oppressive, matching the internal heat that simmered within. He’d barely said a word to anyone all morning. His jaw was locked. He kept his eyes locked on the house, as if by staring at it he could somehow prevent it from disappearing.

He felt a sudden, sharp ache in his chest. His breath hitched. He wished everyone would just leave him alone. He wished he could just make it all disappear.

The foreman approached, asking another question. He simply raised his hand, a curt gesture meant to silence him. The silence, however, only amplified the noise of the machinery.
