Sarah slammed the fridge door a little harder than necessary. Liam's suggestion of a fish tank was still swimming around in her brain, a particularly unwelcome inhabitant. The idea of yet another thing to clean, another responsibility, was simply unbearable.

She grabbed a carton of orange juice, the cardboard feeling rough against her fingers. The air in the kitchen suddenly seemed thick and heavy, each breath a struggle.

"Fish are so low-maintenance!" Liam had insisted earlier, eyes gleaming with excitement. Sarah rolled her eyes, her lips pressed into a thin line. Low maintenance? She doubted it.
