Gemotions

The house was quiet, almost eerily so. Robert sighed, the sound echoing in the empty rooms. He'd promised his daughter to sort through her old things, a task that seemed both sentimental and utterly pointless. He pulled open a box. Inside, he found a battered box full of letters. He selected one, addressed to a boy she had dated in high school. He flipped it over, seeing his own handwriting. He opened it, his heart sinking.

"Dear David..." The teenager’s words felt like a punch. "I'm so over..." He stopped. He felt a dull ache behind his eyes. He had to stop reading. He threw the letter back into the box. He needed to be anywhere but here.
