He stared at the spreadsheet, the numbers blurring before his eyes. Across the table, Maria, his replacement, was taking notes with an alarming speed. He felt a sharp, stabbing pain in his head. The medication he’d taken that morning hadn’t seemed to help.

He had always prided himself on his expertise. He knew the system inside and out. Now, he felt like a fraud, his knowledge suddenly worthless. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to flee the room, to escape the suffocating weight of this responsibility.

"And then you'll enter the data here..." he mumbled, his voice wavering. He felt a bead of sweat trickle down his temple. The air in the room seemed to be getting thinner, harder to breathe. He wanted to scream, to lash out, to do anything to make this stop.
