Gemotions

The exam results came, and I sat still, staring at the screen. I knew I needed to look at it, but the thought of the outcome stopped me. I could not bring myself to open it.

The screen stared back, an unfriendly blankness. I thought about Maya, also waiting to hear the news. We'd studied together for weeks, dreaming of the future. Now, one of us would be crushed.

My hand finally moved, and I clicked. The page loaded slowly, and then the words appeared. I had to know. The world narrowed to that single moment, that single word.
