Gemotions

The bookstore was warm, and the scent of old leather and binding glue was usually a comfort to her, a familiar haven. Lately, though, even the solace of books seemed tainted. She'd been on the verge of a panic attack all morning, a tightness in her chest that felt like a physical weight.

She found a first edition of "Pride and Prejudice," and a folded note, tucked between the pages, fell out. It was a hastily scrawled message, a plea for help, or perhaps a declaration of love. The handwriting was frantic, the ink bled at the edges.

She stared at the words, her vision blurring. Her hands were clammy, her pulse hammering in her ears. She felt a desperate need to know what the letter said, and an equally strong desire to put it back and pretend it never existed. The silence of the bookstore was now a deafening echo of her internal turmoil.
