The house seemed to stand in judgment. Liam felt its gaze. He looked over to his sister, Sarah, who was talking with their lawyer. He felt his face flush. He just wanted to go home.

The door clicked, and the sound echoed throughout the house. Liam looked at the ceiling and then at the floor. The air was stale, like a forgotten breath. He went to the kitchen and ran his hands through his hair.

He couldn't stand the smell. He didn't want to do this. He had no choice. He felt as if a cold hand had gripped his chest and was squeezing tightly. He had to be strong.
