The paper felt thin and fragile in his grip. Liam found it folded inside his wife's address book. He read, "See a Broadway show." "Learn to bake sourdough bread." "Go on a hot air balloon ride." His pulse quickened. He hadn't known these desires existed. A feeling of dread, cold and heavy, settled in his chest.

He walked into the bedroom, his steps hesitant. He wanted to ask her, to confront her, but the words wouldn't come. He couldn't understand why he felt this way, this sudden sense of unease.

He ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the strands. He needed air. He walked to the window and stared outside, watching the cars drive by, each one a potential escape route. He felt a profound sense of helplessness.
