The list was on the bedside table, a stark white contrast to the dark wood. Maya picked it up, her hand trembling. "Learn to sail." "Run a marathon." "Adopt a dog." A knot formed in her stomach. She felt a wave of dizziness, and had to grip the edge of the bed to steady herself.

She sat heavily, the list still clutched in her hand. She thought of their life together, the comfortable routine, the familiar patterns. She felt a creeping sense of unease, a feeling that things were not as they seemed.
