Gemotions

The steam from the shower slicked Amelia's skin, making it flush pink. She hummed, scrubbing shampoo into her hair, and then the sharp ring of the phone sliced through the quiet. It was tucked away in the bedroom, she knew, and Michael was the only one home. She finished rinsing, wrapped a towel around herself, and padded out to find him.

He stood in the hallway, back to her, murmuring. Amelia paused, the heat from the shower still clinging to her. A strange tightness settled in her chest.

"Just a bit longer," Michael said into the phone, his voice low and unfamiliar. He sounded… urgent. Amelia felt a flutter in her stomach. She watched the curve of his back, the way his shoulders shifted as he spoke. He turned then, saw her, and his face immediately smoothed into a familiar smile, but the spell was broken.

"Hey, honey," he said, too quickly. "Just... work stuff." He clicked the phone off and shoved it in his pocket, a nervous flush creeping up his neck. Amelia found herself wanting to touch him, to run her fingers along the line of his jaw.
