Gemotions

He was late. Again. Sarah bit her lip, tapping her foot as she waited. The scent of sandalwood from the diffuser in the living room suddenly felt cloying, suffocating. The air itself seemed heavy, charged. She caught herself twisting her engagement ring around her finger, the metal biting into her skin.

Finally, the click of the lock. Mark strode in, a little breathless, and greeted her with a quick kiss. It didn't settle the feeling churning deep inside her.

He immediately turned away, heading towards the kitchen, but she saw the shadow of the phone tucked in his pocket. He was smiling, a little too brightly, as he told her about his day, but she noticed how he kept glancing at the hallway. Her pulse quickened. There was a secret here, a hidden thread she longed to unravel. She almost wanted to run her hand down the length of his body, just to see what would happen.

"Dinner's almost ready," she said, her voice sounding strange even to her own ears.
