Gemotions

The nurse's voice, usually a soothing balm, grated on his nerves. He was supposed to be getting an update on his own health, but instead, she was holding the wrong file. The contents of the folder were… intriguing. He felt his breathing quicken, a subtle tremor running through him. This other patient’s health report was something else. He sat straighter, unconsciously puffing his chest.

The nurse chattered on, apologizing for the mix-up. He barely listened. His eyes scanned the charts, the graphs, the details. He felt a heat building, a pressure in his lower regions. This wasn’t his life. He wasn’t this robust, this… thriving.

“I’ll need to make a copy for you,” the nurse said, breaking his reverie. He swallowed hard. “Yes, of course.” He needed to get a grip.

He fiddled with the zipper on his jacket, a sudden discomfort in the tightness of his clothes. He hoped the doctor arrived soon.
