The sterile white walls of the clinic seemed to close in around him. The file was wrong. The details – the physical measurements, the medication list, the notes – were all alien, yet… appealing. A strange electricity hummed beneath his skin. He leaned back in his chair.

The nurse, face etched with embarrassment, stammered apologies. He barely registered them. His gaze was fixed on the details of the other patient. He imagined the other person. The doctor, sensing his odd stillness, began to question him. His voice sounded far off.

“Sir? Are you alright?” The doctor’s voice was a sharp edge against the rising tide of his internal response.

He cleared his throat. “Yes, fine. Just…” He couldn’t explain. He felt an undeniable urge, a rising pressure that had nothing to do with medical concerns.

He looked down, his eyes darting back to the file. He felt a sudden, powerful need to leave.
