He had been dreading the appointment. But now, as he stared at the file containing someone else’s data, a strange shift occurred. Not his name, not his history, but… something more interesting. He felt a jolt of energy, a physical sensation he couldn’t explain.

The receptionist was talking, but he couldn't concentrate. He felt a flush creep up his neck.

“Just a mix-up,” the receptionist said, her voice flat. But the papers in front of him did anything but match that description. His fingers flexed.

He cleared his throat, feeling a strange tightness in his chest. “Yes… well. It's… quite the file,” he managed, his voice sounding different.

The images showed a person. A fit person. He felt a burning sensation in his stomach. He was very suddenly and very aware of his body.
