The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the kitchen, but Maya barely noticed. Her husband, Liam, was at the stove, humming a tune she didn't recognize. He turned, a playful glint in his eyes, and said, "Buenos días, mi amor." His accent was… surprising. It wasn't perfect, but the effort, the soft roll of the "r" in "amor," sent a shiver down her spine. She took a step closer, her fingers itching to touch the fine hairs at the base of his neck.

He continued, the words tumbling out a little clumsily, yet they sounded like poetry to her ears. He was describing the weather, the upcoming weekend, their plans to go hiking. The way he spoke, the careful precision with which he formed each phrase, was intensely captivating. She leaned against the counter, suddenly feeling the cool marble against her back.

Maya found herself tracing the curve of her lip with her fingertip, a small, involuntary gesture. "You've been… practicing?" The question came out breathless. Liam grinned, his teeth flashing white against his tanned skin. "Sí," he said, and the single word was enough to make her heart pound a little faster.
