Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. He was supposed to be working, but he kept getting distracted. Across the room, his girlfriend, Sofia, was on the phone, her voice a melodic stream of Portuguese he barely understood. He'd been aware of her language before, of course, but now… it was different.

He leaned against the doorframe, watching her. Every inflection of her voice, every gesture, seemed to amplify her allure. The way she moved, the slight tilting of her head when she was listening intently, had his stomach doing a strange flip.

When she hung up, she turned to him, a smile gracing her lips. He felt a jolt. "I got a call, and they need me to go in tonight. I'll need to go pretty soon." Her voice had an edge he liked. "Você sabe, eu vou sentir sua falta." And in that moment, the words weren’t just words. They were a caress. He wanted her more than he could say.
