He had been feeling distant from his wife lately. The spark had dimmed, routine had settled in. He wasn’t expecting what happened next. She was humming, something unfamiliar, in the kitchen. When he walked in, she turned, a pan in her hand, and greeted him, "Konnichiwa, my love."

He stood frozen, his eyes scanning her. She seemed taller, more elegant. The way the unfamiliar words rolled off her tongue, the slight accent, the effort she put into it, reawakened something dormant within him. He felt a tightening in his chest.

He found himself slowly advancing toward her. She turned, facing him. The expression in her eyes was one of invitation. His hands were shaking slightly. He wanted to touch her, to taste her, to lose himself in the moment.
