A wave of heat washed over him. He felt a peculiar tightening in his stomach. He’d seen the words, the intimate revelations. The journal, left carelessly on the desk, had yielded its secrets. His roommate, Chris, had caught him reading, a moment of icy silence before Chris had quickly apologized.

He stared at his reflection in the mirror, his cheeks flushed. He suddenly felt a need for more space, a desperate craving for air. He tugged at the hem of his shirt, the fabric feeling tight against his skin.
