Gemotions

The intricate, hand-stitched quilt, Great-Aunt Martha's, draped across the worn sofa. The vibrant colours seemed to pulse, each stitch a tiny explosion of light. Mom, her face a mask of careful neutrality, explained the financial strain. I shifted in my seat, the fabric of my jeans suddenly feeling constricting. My lips felt swollen, and I licked them, unable to meet her eyes.

"It's just… a hard time," she said, her voice wavering slightly. The air felt heavy, almost suffocating. The need to touch something, anything, surged through me. My hands clenched.

I imagined myself wrapped in its warmth, cocooned in its comfort. The quilt, usually a symbol of home, was now something more. A wave of heat washed over me, a feeling that both exhilarated and frightened me.
