The email landed with a thud in Amelia's inbox, and her fingers, usually swift on the keyboard, fumbled as she clicked it open. She felt a flush creep up her neck, a heat that had nothing to do with the office’s stuffy air. The subject line, “Important Announcement Regarding Company Future,” practically vibrated. Her breath caught in her throat.

She leaned back in her chair, the leather creaking in protest. A small, involuntary smile played on her lips as she read. Her stomach did a flip, a sensation she couldn't quite place. She imagined her boss’s face – a man she'd always found incredibly appealing.
