The emergency lights bathed the elevator in a sickly orange glow. David felt the blood rush to his ears. Across from him, Emily, her usually prim demeanor gone, seemed strangely… vulnerable. He found himself studying the curve of her neck, the way her blouse strained slightly across her chest.

"Well," Emily said, breaking the silence, her voice a husky whisper. She pushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear, a gesture that sent a shiver down David’s spine. He watched her, unable to look away.

"This is… awkward," he managed, his voice sounding far away. He ran his hand down his jeans, the fabric suddenly rough against his palm. He needed to be closer.
