The air conditioning in the office felt inadequate. Liam found himself shifting in his chair, suddenly acutely aware of every inch of his body. He and Chloe were laughing over a shared memory of Camp Greenlake. He remembered the forbidden swim, the way the sun felt on his skin.

He focused on the words, trying to sound normal. But every time Chloe’s hand brushed his arm while gesturing, a jolt shot through him, making his skin prickle.

He felt a deep yearning to know her again, but in a way he hadn't known her before.

“I… I can’t believe we were there at the same time,” he finally managed, his voice sounding tight. He glanced at the clock, suddenly desperate for the workday to end. His head was swimming.
