He stared at the letter, the official font swimming before his eyes. It was happening. Eviction. He ran a hand through his hair, the strands catching on his fingers. A pressure built within him, a tingling in his groin. He felt an intense need to move, to do something, anything.

He paced the length of the cramped apartment, his chest tight. The stale air felt thick, heavy with unspoken things. He found himself checking the locks on the door, then rechecking them. His heart thumped in his chest, a frantic rhythm against the quiet.

He glanced at his phone, then quickly away. The landlord. He imagined their confrontation, the way the man would look at him. A small smile flickered across his lips as he abruptly threw the phone against the wall, shattering it. He was now alone, completely at the mercy of the situation.
