Gemotions

The basement smelled of damp earth and forgotten things. Maria, rummaging through a trunk of her grandmother's belongings, pulled out a stack of letters. The paper felt brittle, fragile in her hands. She sifted through them, each one a whisper from the past, until she found it: a draft of a letter, unsent, addressed to her grandmother's employer. Her heart quickened.

She scanned the words, her eyes flitting across the ink. The letter spoke of dissatisfaction, of a need for change, of a longing for something more. The writing, though elegant, held a suppressed fire, a barely contained frustration that both intrigued and unsettled her. She felt her skin prickling.

A strange tension coiled within her, a feeling of heat spreading outwards from her center. She felt suddenly restless, needing to break free from the confines of the dusty basement, to breathe, to move. A deep breath, and she knew she was going to have to do more than just read this letter.
