Gemotions

The sun streaming through the window fell on the single sheet of paper. Grace read the letter, again and again, each time feeling the words sink deeper, settling in her stomach like lead. It was a confession, an admission of wrongdoing, years after the fact.

She sat in her armchair, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. The familiar surroundings of her home suddenly felt strange, the light distorting shadows. She felt a tingling sensation in her limbs, a restlessness that she couldn't explain.

She stood abruptly, needing to move. She needed to feel the cool air against her skin, to break the hold the letter had over her. She turned and went out into the garden.
