"Just a little renovation," Mark mumbled to himself, the realtor's words echoing in his mind. He’d learned the "renovation" meant the previous owners were involved in something sinister. The discovery of the old police reports, detailing the gruesome discovery in the master bedroom, had sent his blood rushing.

He dropped the toolbox with a clang and rubbed his palms together, a nervous habit he'd developed. The air inside the house felt thick, charged. He glanced towards the master bedroom. The room where… he didn't want to think about it. But the thought was there.

The image of the crime scene filled his thoughts, the details he’d read in the case files. He needed to feel the space. He walked to the master bedroom, his legs feeling weak. He felt himself reaching out to touch the walls. He ran his hand on the wall, the touch was rough and cold.
