The flickering neon sign of the all-night diner cast long shadows as Elias waited. A prickling heat bloomed in his chest, making his shirt feel suddenly tight. He fidgeted, pulling at the collar. He hadn't felt like this in ages. The woman, with her cascade of fiery red hair and eyes that seemed to absorb all light, was late.

He saw her then, striding towards him with a purposeful grace that made his breath catch. "Sorry I'm late," she said, her voice a low, husky whisper that sent a shiver tracing down his spine. "Traffic." He couldn't stop the goofy grin that spread across his face. He felt like a teenager again.

"No problem," he managed, his voice sounding oddly thick. He gestured towards the booth. They slid in, the leather cool against his warm skin. As their hands brushed reaching for the menus, a jolt, like static electricity, ran up his arm.
