The small, empty cage sat in the center of the living room, a stark symbol of his intransigence. He had been so quick to dismiss the idea of a bunny, citing allergies, demanding responsibility, expressing concerns over the apartment lease.

He felt a deep discomfort as he watched Clara, who now mostly stayed in her room, quietly reading. The silence between them had become a tangible thing, thick and suffocating. He hated the way he was making her feel.
