The scent of ink and paper used to invigorate Elena. She had always enjoyed calligraphy, her cursive handwriting a thing of beauty. But her daughter, Sofia, had taken the hobby to a new level. Her artistic letters were so perfect, they were now being featured on merchandise. Elena was now constantly reminded of her own place.

The elaborate script Sofia used was now beautiful to her, it just wasn’t hers. The joy had fled, replaced by a subtle disquiet. She’d find herself avoiding the desk in the corner. She would try and avoid her daughter, which made her feel… awful.
