Gemotions

The vibrant colors of the office felt too loud. The congratulations, too effusive. Sarah had gotten the promotion. He had known, logically, that this was a possibility, a gamble they both took. But now, seeing her surrounded by celebrating colleagues, he felt a sudden and powerful urge to vanish.

He went to the roof, hoping for some solitude. He leaned against the railing, staring at the cityscape, the buildings seemed to mock him. Every upward trajectory a cruel reminder of his own stagnation. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, but the air did little to settle the turmoil within.
