The party was a disaster. He kept bumping into things, spilling his drink, and making awkward jokes. He knew it was because he was consumed with this awful feeling, this knot that had tightened in his chest when Finn had told him about his plans.

He saw Finn across the room, laughing with a group of friends, and his own cheeks flushed with a heat he couldn't explain. He watched Finn move through the crowd, his heart sinking with every step, and with every step he felt more and more disconnected.

Later, he slipped out, unnoticed, the cool night air offering little relief from the internal heat. He stood alone, staring at the street, a lump forming in his throat.
