The news spread through the class like wildfire. When the exam results were announced, Lily received a grade that was shockingly low. She felt the blood drain from her face as the words were read. She wanted to disappear.

She gathered her things quickly, avoiding all eye contact, her heart pounding in her chest. The hallways seemed to stretch on forever, filled with judgmental whispers she imagined she heard. She hurried to the library, the only place she could think of where she might find some solace, and sat alone in a dark corner.
