He’d been at a family gathering, enjoying the barbecue, when he noticed it. His brother's son, a boy barely old enough to drive, was showing off a new tattoo. The artwork was very familiar. It was his, his signature abstract painting of colliding colors, perfectly replicated on the boy’s calf.

He was stunned. The burgers in his stomach seemed to curdle. He blinked, trying to make sense of the situation. His brother was laughing, but he couldn’t find his own voice. He felt a weird pressure building behind his eyes.

"Pretty cool, huh, Uncle John?" the boy asked, grinning.

John just nodded slowly, speechless.
