The email sat in Amelia’s inbox, glowing with the sterile light of a computer screen. She clicked it open, a nervous tremor dancing in her fingers. *Congratulations, Amelia…* She almost choked. Scrolling down, she saw another name, nestled amongst the details of salary and start date. *...and welcome, Daniel.* Her breath hitched. Daniel? *Daniel?* She reread the entire email three times, her eyes darting back and forth, unable to process the shared victory. Her coffee grew cold in her hand.

She reread the rejection email she had received that morning from the same company. Her stomach began to churn. She knew Daniel was a strong candidate. But they'd *both* been offered the job?
