The air became thick, heavy. I could barely breathe. The dance floor, once inviting, now seemed to pulsate with an almost menacing energy. I saw her. Across the throng of guests, silhouetted against the bright, festive lights. Chloe.

My stomach lurched. I felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to flee. I squeezed my eyes shut for a moment, then opened them again, hoping it was a trick of the light. It wasn’t.
