The room seemed to tilt slightly. "Michael Davies wants to be your friend," the screen illuminated. Ben felt the muscles in his face contract, forming a grimace he didn't intend. Michael. The kid who'd broken his arm in a playground fight, the one who'd never apologized.

Ben leaned back in his chair, trying to steady his breathing. He felt a strange tingling sensation in his fingertips. He felt the need to get up and pace the room, and he did.

He glanced at the request again, then at the photo of a stern-faced Michael, now a man. Ben decided to tap the "Ignore" button, his finger hovering for a moment before committing to the act.
