Gemotions

The card was tucked beneath a stack of envelopes, the only pop of color in the dreary morning light. It was a cartoon of a smiling sun. She knew no one who would send such a thing. Her stomach churned.

She scanned the street, her eyes darting from side to side. It was a quiet neighborhood, but the silence felt menacing now. Who knew she had someone out there, thinking of her?

She quickly went inside, pulling the door shut behind her. She knew she should just ignore it, but curiosity won. She had to know. She had to know who sent it.
