"Well, now," he mumbled, staring at the card. It was a cheap, generic offering with a picture of a cake and candles. He'd been feeling a little low lately, a little… forgotten.

He turned it over and over. He usually only got bills and junk mail. He couldn't remember the last time he'd received any kind of card at all. It was an intrusion, and at the same time, a gift.

A slow smile crept across his face, and he chuckled slightly, shaking his head. He went inside and put the kettle on, deciding to make some tea. He set the card on the kitchen table, where he could admire it.
