Gemotions

"Well, I'll be," I muttered, staring. I'd been planning to put in a new coat rack when the wall gave. Not all at once, mind you. First, a little crack, then more. Now, a whole section of the hallway wall had simply…vanished. Behind it, a small, perfectly preserved room.

I felt a strange buzzing in my ears. The room was sparsely furnished: a writing desk, a chair, and a single, framed portrait on the wall. The portrait stared back at me, its subject unknown. My fingers ached with the desire to touch the cold glass. The silence in the newly revealed room felt oppressive, heavy. I felt a weight on my chest, like a suffocating blanket.
