"Unbelievable," breathed Charles, staring at the newly revealed room. He’d been investigating a persistent drip from the ceiling when the plaster gave way. The whole ceiling gave way, exposing a previously sealed attic space.

It was not a typical attic. This one was large, and filled with strange contraptions, all seemingly abandoned years ago. Gears and levers, wires and tubes. Dust lay thick on everything, giving the air a metallic tang. He felt a deep, instinctive unease, a sense that this place was…wrong. He knew, with a certainty that chilled him to the core, that he should leave. But he couldn't take his eyes off the place.
