The café bustled with the morning crowd as Ethan sat, nursing his coffee and browsing the collection of second-hand books he'd bought the day before. He opened a copy of a cookbook. It had a strange smell. A folded piece of paper slipped out.

It was a recipe, handwritten in a looping, elegant script. It described a type of cake he had never heard of. There were instructions on how to make it.
