Gemotions

The scent hit her first: wet dog and something else, something…musky. Then, she saw it. A fluffy, brown-and-white mutt sitting on the couch, its tail thumping a steady rhythm against the cushions. Her roommate, Sam, was sprawled beside it, petting it.

Her eyes widened. The world seemed to wobble slightly. It was as if she'd entered an alternate reality. She had specifically forbidden pets in the apartment.

She took a involuntary step back, a chill running down her spine. A wave of dizziness washed over her. She gripped the wall, suddenly needing something to steady her.

"He's a rescue," Sam announced, as if that explained everything.
