He stared at the words, unable to believe what he was seeing. Both him and Liam? Liam, who had only been with the company for a year? He thought his head was going to explode.

He slumped back in his chair, his mind racing. He felt the blood drain from his face, leaving him cold and clammy. His mouth was dry, his tongue sticking to the roof of his mouth. The world seemed to shrink around him.

He pushed his chair away from the desk and stumbled out of his office, not bothering to lock the door. The familiar hallway felt alien, the voices of his colleagues a distant, muffled echo.
