The musty scent of old paper and forgotten wealth hit Elias first, as he pulled the heavy oak door open. Dust motes danced in the lone sunbeam slicing through the gloom. His sister, Clara, gasped, covering her mouth with a gloved hand. Inside, the lawyer cleared his throat, a small, nervous sound in the cavernous room.

"Your grandfather, God rest his soul," he began, then gestured vaguely towards a mahogany desk. On it, a single, leather-bound book sat. Clara rushed forward, her heels clicking on the marble floor. Elias lingered, a knot tightening in his stomach.

She flipped it open, her face a mask of bewilderment. He moved to look, and saw the book's contents, not gold or land deeds, but meticulous, handwritten recipes. A cookbook. For her, the renowned chef. He glanced toward the lawyer, then back at Clara, who stammered, "But... he... he knew?"
