The solicitor’s words were a droning hum in Amelia's ears. Beside her, Leo, usually so boisterous, was subdued, his shoulders slumped. The lawyer finished the final sentence. Amelia’s jaw dropped.

She stared at the small, velvet box in her hands. It was warm from her grip. Inside, nestled on satin, was a single, tarnished silver key. Leo pointed at her with a trembling finger, “What does it open?”

A small, choked laugh escaped her. The lawyer watched, expectant. "The… the municipal library?" she choked out. The city library. She'd always loved books, but her brother, the avid athlete, would never set foot inside a building. His inheritance? A deed to a sports arena. She swallowed hard, her pulse hammering.
