The pathologist presented the findings: "Both of your biopsies show… identical markers for Xylo-Skeletal Fusion. Your bones are essentially… fusing." The room spun. He looked at the woman sitting next to him, and her jaw dropped.

He ran a hand over his own leg, feeling the dull ache that had plagued him for months. He saw the same stiffness, the same guarded movements, in the other patient. It was real. It wasn't a mistake.

The woman’s expression shifted, morphing from shock to something akin to acceptance. He felt his own fear receding, replaced by a grudging sense of connection, a shared understanding forged in the face of a terrifying, shared reality. The two strangers shared a solemn moment.
