He hadn't been expecting to find his reflection in the waiting room. The doctor had just finished explaining the results: "Neuro-Atypical Synthesis Syndrome." He looked at the girl next to him, who blinked rapidly, her gaze darting around the room as if she couldn't quite focus. He recognized that restlessness. He understood that… sensation.

He’d always felt like an outsider, misunderstood. Now, in this moment, the feeling intensified, but it was compounded. He felt the oddness magnified, and also suddenly normalized.

He noticed that the girl was now staring at him, and her face went blank. He was starting to feel this way again. He wondered if this was the beginning of a strange and impossible friendship.
